Recent and upcoming investment in Mexico

Information collected from media reports over the last month:

  • Automotive: U.S. automotive components supplier Android Industries inaugurated a new operations plant in the central state of Guanajuato. The US$21 million site is expected to put together kits of products such as spare tires, radiators, consoles and other parts for General Motors auto manufacturing plants.  (El Financiero, September 28, 2018)
  • Solar power: French energy conglomerate Engie announced it will construct a solar power generation plant in the northwestern state of Sonora. The US$111 million facility is projected to have generation capacity of 130.8 MW.  (Reforma, September 27, 2018)
  • OTC pharma: British-owned OTC medicines maker Sal de Uvas Picot plans approximately US$4.8 million in investment in Mexico manufacturing operations, the company reported. Resources will support a 20% expansion of production capacity for antacid products and cold medicines under the brands Sal de Uvas Picot and Mucinex.  (El Financiero, September 26, 2018)
  • Airlines: Mexican passenger air carrier Interjet will expand an existing aircraft order to Airbus for 20 more airplanes at a cost of approximately US$79 million, the company reported. The new A329 NEO aircraft will be phased into service over the coming five years. (El Financiero, September 17, 2018)
  • Liquor: S-Japanese drinks giant Beam Suntory has invested approximately US$60 million from 2017 through the present to modernize and expand its tequila plant in the western state of Jalisco, the company reported. Beam Suntory is launching a campaign to gain market share in the country for its traditional tequila brands Sauza and Hornitos.
